Want to make walking/running fun again? You've come to right place ! ! !
I've been an avid daily runner/walker for over 6 years now. I rise before the sun to run/walk before work. I run/walk at night by the light of the moon or in the dark. I've ran/walked in all kinds of weather, blistering heat, rain, and even snow. When you do something so often, it starts to become mundane and even a chore, just something to get through so you can move on with your day. Recently, I came across this gem of a book called, "The Joy Walker". It offers a 26 day challenge to find new meaning in your exercise program. Laid out in A-Z acrostic style workbook, the TJW offers a word of the day to focus upon as you walk, or in my case run. The 26 pages don't have to be completed in order, but they certainly can if that's how you would like to tackle them. For example, Day E is Expect. "Expect the unexpected during your walk." With one thought for that day, it makes it easier for your mind to focus on that one positive concept while your body is completing the task at hand. It makes the time go by faster and it gives you an even more feeling of accomplishment when you are done. After returning to your TJW workbook you get to physically check off that you are done with that day/concept. There's even a space to record your thoughts and experiences during that session. Then at the end of this month-long journey, you'll have a tangible record of all that you've accomplished, experienced, and seen. At the end of the book there are nearly two years of spots to record your daily walks. You can enter the date, time frame, step count, and more importantly your thoughts about that day's adventure. If you'd like to make your daily walk/run fun again you've come to the right place.
Go to gift idea . . .
Why didn’t I think of this?!?
What an ingenious way to make your walk much more intimate. I loved every A-Z and the notes. This is a good read for each day of the month again and again. This will be my "go to" for gifts for my present and future walking partners and especially those that are afraid to get started!
Great Motivation!
Very encouraging book. When I walk I do a lot of thinking. This book offers a place to write those thoughts down. Love all the encouraging and reminding quotes for each day. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs encouragement to get up and move or anyone who likes to keep a journal of their walks or runs.
Walk motivator and tracker
The Joy Walker is an inspiring read. It is a good motivator to encourage a great walk while enjoying the awesome outdoors. Following a plan and monitoring progress helps keep you on track for an improved lifestyle. I encourage all who are seeking an easy to follow (and enjoyable) walk or running plan to purchase this book. You will not be disappointed.
Motivation for a lazy man!
I read this book with interest because I am a 69 yr old man who sits behind a desk and I absolutely should walk every day! Over the last 20 years I have not been as disciplined as I needed to be and this book looks like the guide I need to start walking again! again!
Get outside and go for a walk...it will do wonders for your mind, body and soul.
Following simple instructions in Phillip's book, you will be able to "conquer mountains" that you thought were to difficult to climb. You can gain insight and get your spirit renewed.
You will love!
Facing health issues that make it even more important to walk I need all the encouragement possible. You will not be disappointed with this book/journal. Being able to look back on thoughts from previous days helps push me to get out the door and walk! You won’t be disappointed. Worth every penny!
5 stars. Great motivational book.
Great tool to motivate and inspire one to get moving. Liked the journal pages at the back.
Inspired me to walk daily!
Great book!!! Very inspiring!! I was looking for a way to get motivated to get off the couch and go for a walk. This book did the trick!! I read a "letter" a day then went for a walk. Love that the book can also be used a a journal for writing thoughts/contemplations of the walk.
5 stars. Here's your motivation.
For those of you looking to find a clever motivation for walking, this may be your book. The author takes simple concepts and relates them in quick, easy to read passages to get you out and walking. It may seem simple, but many people are not finding joy in their day to day lives. The author has found his key to success, and is sharing it in The Joy Walker book. I'm more of a runner than a walker, but the concept is still the same. I hope it helps you!

I'm a former newspaper reporter, advertising salesman, and specialty newspaper publisher (antiques) turned book writer. Words and I have a history, and we've been on and off, hot and cold. We've had break-ups and make-ups. During all this, I've lived in Seagrove, Wilmington, Robbins, Raleigh, and Greensboro, all North Carolina towns, in that order. Then, being still young and dumb, and feeling practically invincible, I tried Richmond, VA, Phoenix, AZ, and Hot Lanta, Georgia, called Atlanta by some folks. Now, I've landed in Florida, close to a mouse with big ears.
I will read most any book EXCEPT fiction, including encyclopedias and dictionaries (well, a page or two every few years). That's a pity because multitudes love fiction and it's where the big money is, and I should be reading it to learn how to write it. That's okay, though, because enough money is enough when you really think about it.
Biographies, adventure stories, how-tos, histories, and art books stay the longest in my forever evolving bookcases scattered through most every room in my home. I have a dozen bookcases of all varieties and size; a couple came from big box office supply stores but most came from local thrift shops, which I haunt weekly in search of old and rare books.
I have lost and regained the same ten to fifteen pounds at least a dozen times during my life. I made a resolution to stop drinking coffee on April 15, 2009, and have not had one cup since. Of course, I took up with green tea soon thereafter and now drink five or six cups of the stuff every day. I have a cat named Fraidycat who I believe was a human in an earlier existence.
